SHOW OF HANDS FOR THE DISNEY LORCANA FANS OUT THERE…
Share
As a relatively new trading card game, launching in 2023, Lorcana has taken the TCG community by storm and we are all over it. We dabbled in the beginning, but it was the Azurite Sea’s set that really captured our attention, with its nod to the sea themed films and plenty of Stitch (and of course Lilo). Let’s take a quick delve into Lorcana for those that are still unsure.
GAME PLAY
Lorcana requires you to become the ‘Illumineer’, summoning characters, actions and locations from the Disney Universe. Players build their 60 card decks which can include character cards, each one representing a Disney character with their own abilities and values, spell cards used for special effects which will alter the game, and artifact cards which give special abilities or permanent advantages throughout the game.
The aim is to get 20 lore points before your opponent in order to win (lore being the Lorcana point system).
RELEASES
Disney released their first Lorcana TCG set in 2023 starting with The First Chapter and has since released 11 sets in total. The twelfth set, Winterspell, is due for release in February and we could not be more excited.
Lorcana has been well received in the TCG community with 17,000 taking part in its first tournament which is, in part, down to its engaging gameplay, as well as its striking and unique artwork enticing in both Disney fans and TCG fans alike.
CARDS
The cards themselves range in rarity which is indicated in the bottom centre of the cards. These go from common and uncommon, through rare, super rare and legendary, up to epic, enchanted and iconic with epic and iconic being relatively new additions.
From personal experience, the pull rate started out tough on the earlier sets, however, whether they have increased the number of rarer cards or whether our luck is improving is up for debate but we have certainly done better on the newer sets.
The common cards are beautiful and the foils add a nice twist for TCG collectors with a need to collect the entire set.
If you are dubious about Lorcana, grab a few packs and see what you pull. If you’re anything like us, you’ll be hooked. Whether you want a new trading card game to get into or a whole new set to collect, we don’t think these will disappoint!
